Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups dates, chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1/3 cup butter
- Zest of an orange
- 1 1/4 cups milk
Method
- Preheat oven to 220°C fan bake. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- In a saucepan, simmer chopped dates with water over medium heat for about 10 minutes until tender. Drain any excess water and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add cooked dates and orange zest, and mix to combine.
- Pour in milk and mix gently with a fork or knife until just combined. The dough should be soft and sticky.
- Drop 12 blobs of dough onto the prepared tray.
- Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
